Bunaken National Marine Park is an officially protected and recognized nature reserve. With a Northern and a Southern, section it exists out of two main parts. Its total size is 79.056 hectares of land and marine area. Whereas the Southern section consists entirely of coastal area, the Northern section has, beside coastal area, 5 islands within its boundaries. These island are: Bunaken (after which the park is named), Siladen, Manado Tua, Mantehage and Nain.
Bunaken National Park is representative of Indonesian tropical water ecosystems of the mangrove ecosystems, seagrass, coral reefs, and land / coastal ecosystems. In the northern part of Bunaken, Manado Tua island, the island Montehage, Siladen island, the island Nain, Nain Kecil island, and some coastal areas of Cape Pisok. A growing number of dive centers is operating from the mainland around Manado and directly from Bunaken Island.
